Empire of the sun
The band released the single «Solid Gold» on 2 May 2019. The song continues Pnau’s collaboration with Kira Divine on vocals, and also features additional vocals by Marques Toliver https://empireofthesunofficialmerch.com/. The band hosted a live chat on their Facebook page to support the release. In August 2019, the band released the single «All of Us». In December 2020, the band worked with Ladyhawke again and released the single «River».
To promote Pnau internationally, Littlemore and Mayes travelled to London. In December 2007 Elton John heard Pnau’s «Wild Strawberries» – the lead single from the album – while in Sydney for the Australian leg of his Rocket Man Tour. After hearing the whole album John contacted Littlemore to encourage him. Pnau returned to Australia in January 2008 to perform at Big Day Out and met John who signed the duo with his United Kingdom-based management. Pnau then relocated to London more permanently, both Littlemore and Mayes worked with John. Littlemore and Mayes established a recording studio in London and worked as record producers.
The duo have won a number of Australian music awards, with Walking on a Dream receiving 11 nominations at the ARIA Music Awards of 2009 and winning seven – including Album of the Year. As a live band, they have performed internationally and are known for their flamboyant costumes and elaborate stage sets.

In August 2016, it was announced that the third album Two Vines was set for release on 28 October 2016. The album was co-produced by Peter Mayes and features contributions by Lindsey Buckingham, Wendy Melvoin, and former David Bowie collaborators Henry Hey and Tim Lefebvre. The 15-track album includes a remix of the song «Walking on a Dream» and was partly recorded in Hawaii. Littlemore explained the inspiration behind the title as «this image of a modern city overtaken by jungle». The first single «High and Low» was released on 24 August. «High and Low» was also featured in the EA Sports game, FIFA 17.
Although the name of the final project has been attributed to the 1984 novel of the same name by J. G. Ballard, Littlemore denied this and offers an explanation, saying, «the name comes more from the idea of … the fact that we’re traveling around the world going to all the places of empires of the civilization where the sun has been a theme of worship. It’s not based on the Ballard novel nor the Spielberg film of the same name.»

The dramatic attack on the Japanese prisoner of war camp carried out by P-51 Mustangs is accompanied by Jim’s whoops of «…the Cadillac of the skies!», a phrase believed to be first used in Ballard’s text as «Cadillac of air combat». Steven Bull quotes the catchwords in the Encyclopedia of Military Technology and Innovation (2004) as originating in 1941. John Williams’s soundtrack includes «Cadillac of the Skies» as an individual score cue.
