NEW YORK – They crammed in crowded 4 and D trains, packed the Bronx’s sports bars and streamed through the Yankee Stadium gates, ready to lend their voices to the comeback cause. But it took all of three batters for those pinstripe-clad fans to be quieted, all of three batters for the seemingly unstoppable Dodgers to assert themselves in one of the most intimidating road environments in sports.
“You know, this year, we’ve battled, we’ve faced adversity, and we just keep coming back and punching back,” Freeman said. “And it’s just a credit to our guys, our staff, everyone in this organization, we believe in ourselves, and we’ve been doing it so far.”

The Dodgers continue the postseason Tuesday when they face the New York Yankees in Game 4 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 5:08 p.m. PDT and will air on Fox and Fox Deportes. Radio broadcasts of the game will be on 570 AM and 1020 AM (Español) in the Los Angeles area.
Bottom of the fourth: Landon Knack took over on the mound for the Dodgers and gave up a lead-off single to Alex Verdugo. Gleyber Torres then hit into a 4-6-3 double play. Knack then got Juan Soto to ground out to second.
Mookie Betts, Max Muncy, and Tommy Edman have played every inning this postseason, and Shohei Ohtani has taken every plate appearance as designated hitter. Will Smith has caught all but two innings this October, and Teoscar Hernández has started all 14 games as well.

Moments after his error, Torres sparked the most interesting “defensive play” of the evening, when his long fly ball to left-center in the top of the ninth found the glove of a fan positioned at the wall in the pavilion seats. Because the fan had clearly reached over the wall to make the snag, it was ruled — and upheld on replay review — a ground-rule double rather than a go-ahead homer. Freddie Freeman’s walk-off grand slam sent the Dodgers home happy with a win reminiscent of 1988 in more ways than one. The game began at 5:11 p.m. PT and was 3 hours and 27 minutes — over at 8:38. 1988 Game 1 had a 5:35 p.m. start and 3:04 time of game — over at 8:39.
This became the third consecutive World Series Game 1 to go to extra innings, and, thanks to Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s single and two stolen bases, the Yankees had runners on the corners with one out in the 10th. When Anthony Volpe grounded to short, Edman made a nice diving stop on the ball but had trouble with the transfer and couldn’t complete a potential double play. Chisholm motored home.
There was plenty of drama before the grand slam as well. The Dodgers scored the first run, but the Yankees responded with a titanic homer from Giancarlo Stanton. Both starting pitchers, Gerrit Cole and Jack Flaherty, had good starts, but Flaherty came out in line for the loss.
